Will Amal change her last name?

I can't take it any more.  I no sooner think I have a week's breathing space, when I read I need to run out early to buy a case of tissues and smelling salts.


What's even worse....... as if there could be............  when I first learned about Amal, I had to slowly  type her last name to go in the internet. NOW, I can type her last name as quickly as I can type my own.  Good God.

Speaking of names............. come October..   Amal Alamuddin, Amal Clooney, Amal Alamuddin-Clooney.

Thoughts, opinions?

Pigpen - if I was a betting woman, I'd put money on the double barrelled name.  If she does, it would be hilarious if he did too.  George Alamuddin-Clooney. 

Oof, I hope she just keeps her maiden name.  That hyphenated one is clunky.  Maybe keeps the maiden name professionally, takes his name for personal use?

I once had a professor who, when he and his wife married, they combined their last names to make a completely new one, then both took it as their last name.  Alamooney? (too close to "alimony").  Cloomuddin? (sounds like an anti-depressant).  Their last names really don't go together at all.

Well, if I were her, which I'm not (no Oxbridge degree, high flying career, mass of long dark hair, superslim bod and man called Clooney), but if I was, I think I'd want to keep my maiden name for my career

I'd think she'd keep it professionally as well.  She seems to be right at that point in her career where the name recognition she's built up could be very important.

Amalooney has a nice ring to it....

I like it too, but that's a combo of her first and his last.  She'd be Amal Amalooney!

If I were her, I'd choose Alamuddin-Clooney

Hey Missa, you don't think that Amal Clooney would open doors for her career?

In legal circles? Not necessarily. It seems that she's built up a reputation in her field, and might not want to risk losing name recognition. Frankly, the "movie star's wife" label may be more of a hindrance than a help. She also may not want to advance her career based on anything but her skills as an attorney.

Maybe, Amal Alamuddin for work and personal life Alamuddin clooney.

 In USA, she didn't have name recognition without George.  Imagine it's that way in other places as well, outside of UK.  She may have an uphill battle after the wedding, if that's the case--wanting to be known primarily as a barrister.

I think with in her field if you had her kind of case her name would come up. Other than that there would be no reason for any one to know her basically .

I think that Amal will use her own surname, as does any other professional woman.

Btw....I can't think of anyone in the film world changing their name to their husband's name when they marry.

Right, she doesn't do the type of work anyone in the US would know her for. Now if she had defended a Kardashian or murderous former football player, she'd be a household name here.

Joanna, the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Will Smith's wife, who now goes professionally by Jada Pinkett-Smith. Definitely no A-listers that have already built a career though, you're right.

I think she has already established herself in her field. One case in point that she was asked to be on the UN investigative commission re Gaza/Israel. And she has worked on some pretty high profile cases internationally. I agree with Missa and party animal. Think she would keep her maiden name for her profession.
I also never found any mention by US Weekly that the ceremony was going to be tomorrow? They did report on the Downton Abbey story. Don't get it. These rumors seem to come out of nowhere.

She should keep her name. Amal has an established career. Being Mrs Clooney would hurt, not help her in legal circles. I kept my name because to me that is who I am. Whatever works!

just keep her own name and forget clooney. she might be needing it again and if though she will be mrs. clooney it just does not fit her. just my opinion. bg

If I am not wrong, she changed her last name in Jolie-Pitt.

The Kids are all Jolie-Pitt so I think she probably took Brads name in her private life.

Professional her name , for private life Alamuddin - Clooney. But , the reality is she is going to be Mrs Clooney and whole world will know whether she changes her name or not.
